This brief SME statistical reference contains 15 diagrams with comments, showing major SME indicators since 1997. The SME statistics update evidences noticeable changes in the total number of small businesses, individual entrepreneurs, farm enterprises, the number of SMEs per 1000 of population, employment at SMEs, profitability and labour productivity of SMEs, investments made by SMEs, indicators of regional programs for SME support etc. The updated SME statistics provides basic data on the size of the SME sector and tendencies in its development from 1997 till 2002. The raw data for the update were provided by Goskomstat, the data were processed and put together by the Russian SME Resource Centre.
